  • File the following forms with the state of North Carolina: 1099-MISC / 1099-NEC and 1099-R.
  • Filing due dates: File the state copy of form 1099 with the North Carolina taxation agency by January 31, 2021.
  • Reporting threshold: Electronic 1099 filing (through eNC3 - Web Text File Upload) is mandated for all filers. "eNC3 Specifications for 1099 Reporting" are supported by our W2 Mate software.
  • When filing federal copies of forms 1099 with the IRS from the state of North Carolina the mailing address is: Department of the Treasury , Internal Revenue Service Center Austin, TX 73325.
  • When filing state copies of forms 1099 with North Carolina department of revenue, the agency contact information is: NC Department of Revenue, P.O. Box 25000, Raleigh, N.C. 27640 .
  • Compliance rules: North Carolina accepts CD-ROM Media for 1099 Reporting. The media must meet the requirements defined by IRS Publication 1220. Although North Carolina participates in the IRS CF/SF Program, returns which report NC income tax withheld must be filed directly to North Carolina Department of Revenue. The 1099 file on the media must be in text format, without encryption and named IRSTAX. While it is necessary to sign up with the IRS FIRE System to use electronic submission for federal reporting, it is not necessary for NC state reporting.

Important Note (for both paper and electronic filers): There is a new form called 1099-NEC that is used to report None-employee compensation (instead of Box 7 on form 1099-MISC). The IRS does not forward 1099-NEC forms to the state, you need to file directly with the North Carolina DOR.
